Three Reasons Apple Fans are Right

Since Apple Computer Company was founded on April 1, 1976 in the garage of a modest single story home in Lost Altos, California, the company has been on the forefront of the design and technical revolution. From the sleek design of the Macintosh in 1984 to the latest iteration of the iPhone X, customers have loved the look and iconic style of Apple. The real love for Apple, however, began in the early 2000s with the first release of the iPod.

This love of Apple products has given rise to fans who have become so devoted to Apple products that they are willing to brave the elements to be the first to own a new product. Apple fans are known to eschew any other brand in favor of purchasing only Apple products. But why does Apple garner such devotion and loyalty amongst its user base? Here are three reasons why Apple has consistently proven itself to its fans.

  1. A Unified Appearance – If there’s one thing you can say about Apple products, it’s that you know one when you see it. Whether it’s Apple accessories and peripherals or their primary products, they all share a certain appearance: white, streamlined, with a distinct minimalized interface. Apple products are designed to broadcast who they are to everyone who sees them.

This look has remained the same throughout their various product lines. The flagship products are always white. Different colors, such as gold, red, and silver are offered, but those only serve to accent the clean lines of an Apple product. The point is, consumers know what to expect from an Apple product, be it an iPhone, an iPad, or a Mac. This provides some measure of comfort and reliability in a consumer segment that is often fraught with fragility.

  1. Intelligent Growth – It doesn’t matter what line of work you’re in; there’s an Apple product for you. People use their phones or tablets every day for tasks ranging from editing photos to playing games. This wasn’t always the case. For years, most people perceived Mac as the forte of graphic designers and artists, ignored by a large segment of consumers. Apple recognized this and began to work on capturing a larger segment of the PC market.

It began by changing how their computers were built. Apple recognized that most consumers didn’t trust the PowerPC processors they were using, so in 2005, they struck a deal with Intel to use their processors in their products. As a result of that move, they saw their annual Mac sales grow from under 5 million units to double that in under three years. In 2017, there were 19.25 million Macs sold. This small change, coupled with a smart advertising strategy, enabled Macs to capture an enormous segment of the consumer and business markets.

These numbers are also anemic compared to how Apple dominates the tablet market. The iPad was released in April of 2010, and has since gone through multiple iterations. The iPad is by far the best selling tablet on the market, with over 3.27 million sold when it was released. There have been over 360 million iPads sold since, with each successive unit improving upon the last.

  1. Durability – Another reason Apple products are so beloved by consumers and investors is their durability. Apple users have long known that Apple products are highly durable. There are numerous stories of iPhones being fully immersed in water and becoming fully functional after being dried out.

In 2016, when the iPhone 6 was released, there were numerous concerns about its seeming fragility and bendability. In response to those concerns, Apple released information on the five stress tests that they put the phone through before release. These five tests were designed to break the iPhone in ways that most customers couldn’t imagine. And according to internal documents, they succeeded. According to Apple, “With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus.”

The same durability extends across its line of products, which to Apple fans means that once you buy an Apple product, you don’t have to worry about it breaking through normal use.

Apple products have their fans, just like any major consumer product. However, Apple fans seem to be a cut above the rest, and with good reason. Apple products may cost a little more than a similar device, but in the end, that extra cost translates into a great return on investment for the purchaser.
